Find Me in Here

a dance about you and the group. directed by esther m palmer

I am exploring how performance heightens philosophical connections between people. I founded Seen Performance with David Morneau and Shana McKay Burns to help define this process through cross-disciplinary collaboration. Getting my MFA in Dance and Technology from OSU I developed an approach to creating performance through methodologies borrowed from disciplines outside dance. Early on, I fell in love with the idea of dance as a broader art from through improvisation, which was introduced to me as a method of performed composition by Penny Campbell. I keep this spirit of improvisation with me in all of my performance work, relying on each specific situation to feed choices.

Hello! I just read about your ‘Find Me In Here’ project and am very interested in your work—I’m sad I missed the installations at various parks, etc, and will be out of town this weekend so I won’t get to see the shows at Green Space, either. Anyhow, I am a dancer/performer who just moved to Brooklyn after completing my MFA (Contemporary Performance). Years ago I worked with Penny Campbell, as I see you did, and was very influenced by that work, as well as other improvisation/composition work I’ve done since. I’d love to see your work another time, or potentially collaborate in the future, so please add me to your mailing list, if you have one—particularly if you have auditions or are looking for collaborators for a new/similar project.

Thanks—and all the best for the shows this weekend!

Thanks for introducing yourself Margot -I’ll certainly keep you on my list. I’m actually working on a solo improvisation project right now –there are accompanying writings at http://blog.esthermpalmer.com/labels/openstudio.html. Starting in September I’ll be posting my schedule of rehearsals, all of which are open to the public, so please do join me when you can! best, emp
