Director Esther m Palmer brings five women into Find Me in Here to explore their individual identities through an experimental collaborative choreographic process. Over a six-month period, the dancers work with Esther in the studio, creating original movement sequences in response to questions about their identity. The dancers’ unique movement signatures provide the building blocks for a cohesive group piece shaped through Esther’s distinctive use of repetition and pause.
Find Me in Here invites the Queens community to observe the process of creation and engage with it through dialogue and hands-on experience. We are bringing the dance process to local Astoria parks during the summer, encouraging passers-by to watch the dancers rehearse, learn a small sequence of movement, and discuss what they have experienced.
The dancers are Sarah Lehman, Hsieh Hsiao-Wei, Hsieh Hsiao-Ting, Chelsea Retzloff, and Anna Wueller, with early contributions additionally from Lydia Bell.
We are also joined by costume designer Emily Lippolis, graphic designer Adrienne Weisent, and photographer Lindsey Wolkowicz.
